Sedona, I offer private lessons from two hours to a half day, depending
on your desire. The lessons are private for you and your group – no
others will be added. The fees are as follows:

All
the sessions involve visiting some local favorite photographic sites.
These vary depending on the program (two and a half hours, half day, or all day), on
the season, and on the time of day. The best time to photograph, of
course, is early morning or late afternoon/early evening, so these are
the best times to schedule with me. With the
all day session, unless you choose to be "in the field" the
whole day, we will spend some time during the middle of the day "in
the studio" teaching by slides elements of composition and color.
The
instruction will be suited to your desires usually with an emphasis on
composition, how to look at the landscape, and how to look at light. I
am familiar with some equipment, but my instruction is on technique not
on equipment.

“I really appreciated the one-on-one instruction, the constructive and relevant feedback (you were great at noting positives and also offering ideas for improvement in a supportive way), your wide-ranging knowledge and ability to answer questions clearly.”
- Ann H., Arizona, Intermediate Photographer
“
Very informative and very interesting…worth every cent.”
- Arlene R, New York, novice
“It was a great pleasure, in fact the highlight of our visit to Sedona
after the great natural beauty, to meet Rick and to be able to spend some
time learning some landscape photography from him.” -Carl Z., Connecticut, intermediate photographer “[Rick’s] questions made me more aware of what I was doing and why. Now, each time I take a photo I take more time to set it up, giving more forethought and analysis, rather than just randomly snapping away. I feel the great photos I get now will be more because of technique, rather than by chance.” - Jan Y, Pennsylvania, novice to intermediate |

Portfolio
Review
A
very cost effective way to improve your photography is to have an
outside, unbiased professional review some of your work. Friends and
family looking at our work is always a start, but you probably are not
getting unbiased opinions and seldom are your family or friends
"experts" at photography anyway. So I offer a portfolio review
service.
I
will review your portfolio and provide critique and recommendations on
improving your work. This can be done by sending me a sample of your
work by compressed JPEG files over the internet or, preferably, by
sending me samples in the mail. You should provide 50-100 images showing
the range of your work. I encourage you to send not only some examples
of the work you are most proud of, but also include images you are not
happy with but not quite sure "what went wrong."
I
will review the images and provide you with a written report either by
email or by letter, whichever you prefer. It will help if you label or
number each photograph so when I comment on individual images, you and I
will understand each other.
Normally
the review can be done within two weeks unless I am traveling at the
time.
If
you send images through the mail, I prefer slides, but I can review
prints as well. Whatever you send will be returned if you enclose a
stamped, self-addressed return envelope with your submission. I take
very good care of images, but packages do get lost or damaged in the
mail once in a great while. I recommend you send duplicates particularly
if you have images that you treasure as irreplaceable. Insurance just
won’t make up for that great image from an exotic location you will
never visit again!
For
portfolio review, the charge is $150.
It is most efficient if you just enclose a check with your submission,
or if you are sending materials electronically, you can mail a check to
me. You may also pay using a credit card through PayPal. This is a
secure website and a good way to pay over the internet.
If you wish to pay by credit card
Click on the button below and follow the easy instructions.
This is a safe and secure way to pay over the Internet.
Please
send me an email before you send images and indicate that you will be
sending a portfolio either electronically or by mail. I will acknowledge
this before you send materials which will be your way of knowing I am
not traveling at the very time you send materials.
